Biography

James has been with the Firm since its inception in 2003. He became the first new partner admitted to the Firm in 2005 and is the partner-in-charge of the sales tax department. James primary disciplines include all state and local transaction tax services, including refund engagements, compliance, sales and use tax planning, due diligence, audit representation, exposure analysis, and taxability matrices. He has extensive experience in the telecommunications, restaurant, technology, and manufacturing sectors.

James joined Coscia Greilich & Company LLP (CGC) in February 2002. While there, he managed all the state and local sales tax services, and created significant refund opportunities for several clients. He was directly responsible for the implementation of sales tax outsourcing for various companies, some of which are large, publicly-traded companies. Utilizing his extensive knowledge of tax laws and experience with audit techniques, he obtained considerable tax savings for many clients during audit representation.

Prior to joining CGC, James spent nearly six years with Montgomery Baggett & Drews LLP (MBD). James was the senior sales tax manager at MBD and managed the firm’s sales tax department. Under his management, services provided by the sales tax department included compliance, audit representation and strategic planning, due diligence, sales tax planning, exposure analysis, and product taxability matrices.

Prior to serving at MBD, James spent seven years as a senior auditor at the Texas State Comptroller’s Office, where he performed a variety sales and use tax, mixed beverage tax, diesel fuel tax, motor vehicle tax and hotel occupancy tax audits. He specialized in sales and use tax audits of priority one accounts in which computer-assisted auditing was applied. As a senior auditor, James was assigned Fortune 500 companies with multi-national operations.

Biography

Chris joined the Firm in December 2006 and is currently lead tax partner. His primary disciplines include: large corporate tax compliance and planning, research credit studies, accounting period and methods issues, transactional services, audit representation in income tax audits, and tax provision (FAS 109) calculations and consultation with respect to accounting for uncertainty in income taxes (FASB interpretation No. 48). He works with closely-held entities as well as publicly-traded companies.

Prior to joining Montgomery Coscia Greilich, Chris spent five years at KPMG LLP and two years at Arthur Andersen LLP as a senior manager in the Federal Tax Services group. Chris was the lead senior tax manager for the Southwest region over research credit services at KPMG. He also managed a large client load of multiple fortune 500 tax clients of the firm. In addition, he was a member of the firm’s national accounting methods and research credit services team throughout his tenure at KPMG.

While at KPMG and Arthur Andersen, Chris was involved in large corporate compliance and consulting, large partnership compliance and consulting, IRS representation, research credit study preparation and audit defense, firm-wide research credit technical training, accounting method change implementations, consolidated stock basis studies, Section 199 studies, and the management of multiple clients in all aspects of federal, state/local, and international compliance. Chris also spent extensive time consulting on FAS 109 and FIN 48 for numerous clients. Chris’ primary clients operate in the high technology, manufacturing and retail sectors.

Prior to his time at KPMG and Arthur Andersen, Chris worked in the corporate tax department of Cinemark Theatres for eight years. During his tenure at Cinemark, Chris developed extensive experience in multiple disciplines of taxation including federal, international, state/local, and sales and use tax. He also managed the state and local audit defense process, as well as played a critical role in the preparation of the provision for income taxes (FAS 109).

Biography

Brian joined the firm as a Partner in April 2008.  He currently leads MCG’s Corporate Income Tax Practice and MCG University Tax Training Division. Additionally, his areas of responsibility include accounting for income taxes (ASC 740, formerly known as FAS 109 and FIN 48), tax issues related to accounting for share based payments (FAS 123R), corporate tax compliance and planning, accounting period and methods issues, and audit representation in income tax audits. He also has extensive experience assisting clients in structuring and planning transactions as well as mergers and acquisitions.  He works with closely held entities as well as publicly traded companies.

Prior to joining the Firm, Brian spent six years at KPMG LLP and four years at Arthur Andersen LLP as a Tax Managing Director in the Federal Tax Services group. Brian was the lead partner (Southwest region) over the Global Tax Transformation Services. The group primarily provides services related to review of client’s tax function including a review of processes, people and technology compared to best practices. He was also part of the KPMG LLP’s national FAS 109 Resource Team.

Brian has spent extensive time assisting clients with ASC 740 (FAS 109, FIN 48 and FAS 123R issues), and teaching multiple training seminars on those issues. He also managed a large client load of multiple Fortune 500 tax and audit clients of the firm operating in the manufacturing, retail, communications, restaurant, technology and hospitality sectors. In addition, he was a member of the firm’s national Accounting Methods and Research Credit Services team.

While at KPMG LLP and Arthur Andersen LLP, Brian was involved in large corporate compliance and consulting, large partnership compliance and consulting, IRS representation, accounting method change implementations, and the management of multiple clients in all aspects of federal, state/local and international compliance.

Prior to serving at KPMG LLP and Arthur Andersen LLP, Brian served for four years in the corporate tax department of Southwestern Bell Mobile Systems and SBC. During this time, Brian developed experience in multiple disciplines of federal and state taxation including accounting methods, fixed asset issues and accounting for income taxes.

Rene is an audit partner who joined the Firm in November 2004. Rene has worked in public accounting for more than 13 years providing accounting and attestation services to clients. His primary disciplines include financial statement attestation, internal audit, Sarbanes-Oxley compliance, due diligence and post-acquisition accounting. Rene has substantial experience in the following industry sectors: restaurant and hospitality, manufacturing and distribution, construction, home health care, professional services, and retail. Rene has spent extensive time assisting clients with complex accounting issues such as stock-based compensation, variable interest entities, business combinations, and convertible debt with detachable warrants.

Prior to joining the Firm, Rene spent two years at PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP (PwC) in the business advisory and assurance department. At PwC, Rene was in charge of multiple large public and private companies. Rene was in charge of providing services that included Sarbanes-Oxley audits, financial statement audits, employee benefit plan audits, and opening/closing balance sheet audits for acquisitions.

Prior to joining PwC, Rene spent four and one-half years with Montgomery Baggett & Drews LLP, where he provided audit and consulting services to private and public companies.

Rene is a certified public accountant and graduated from the University of Texas at Arlington in May 1998. Rene is an active member in the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants.

At Neiman Marcus, Dustin was in charge of managing the income tax compliance and ASC 740 processes, as well as initiating tax planning opportunities both internally and with external tax advisors.

While at KPMG and Arthur Andersen, Dustin was involved in large corporate federal and state compliance and consulting, large partnership compliance and consulting, IRS representation, accounting method change implementations, and the management of multiple clients in all aspects of federal, state/local and international compliance. Prior to joining the Firm, Mike served as the chief financial officer for six companies (including one publicly-traded company) and completed numerous other consulting engagements through his consulting firm, GaylerSmith Group, LLC.

Immediately prior to forming GaylerSmith Group, Mike served for three years as vice president of corporate finance with the investment banking firms of Buis & Company in Fort Worth and Southwest Securities in Dallas.

Mike began his career with Coopers & Lybrand LLP (now PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP) as an audit manager in the Emerging Business Services practice in Dallas for eight years. Later, Mike served for five years as the director of accounting and control for Super Club Corporation, which was an international roll-up in the retail and wholesale audio and video products industry, with over 450 stores and $380 million in annual sales. Super Club was sold to Blockbuster Entertainment Corporation in 1994.

Mike currently serves on the board of directors for the Texas Tech University Alumni Association as well as the Rawls College of Business Advisory Council at Texas Tech University.

He was also actively involved as a coach in the Coppell Youth Soccer Association for many years. In addition, Mike formerly served on the board of directors and as president and treasurer of The Family Place, a Dallas-based charity working to prevent domestic violence.

Greg joined the Firm in May of 2009. His primary specialties include domestic and international tax compliance and consulting for corporations, value-added tax compliance and audit defense, tangible personal property compliance, sales and use compliance and accounting for income taxes (FAS109). Greg has experience in the following sectors: retail, telecommunications, and service.

Prior to joining the Firm, Greg spent five years with Pegasus Solutions, Inc., where he served as tax director and managed the domestic and international compliance of Pegasus. Greg prepared the FAS 109 and the related financial disclosures as well as the U.K. tax provision, VAT filings and financial disclosures. During his time at Pegasus, Greg was exposed to various tax issues such as a go-private transaction, various acquisitions, international restructuring, and international audits.

Prior to Pegasus, Greg spent five years at Allegiance Telecom, Inc., where he was the income and property tax manager. His duties included corporate income tax compliance as well as rendering all tangible personal property. During his time at Allegiance, Greg participated in various acquisitions and a bankruptcy filing.

Greg additionally spent time at CompUSA as a senior in the income tax department.

Karen joined the Firm in November 2009.  Karen serves as the lead partner over the Firm’s qualified plans audit and consulting practice.  Karen’s plan audit experience includes DOL disclaimer and full-scope audits of defined contribution plans, defined benefit plans, health and welfare plans, cash balance plans, and employee stock ownership plans.  Karen has experience with complex plan investments and significant plan transactions.  In addition, Karen has assisted numerous clients in plan document compliance reviews, Internal Revenue Service (“IRS”) / Department of Labor (“DOL”) correction methodologies and implementation procedures, as well as power of attorney representation in IRS and DOL examinations.  Karen serves the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (“AICPA”) as an oversight reviewer to peer review over employee benefit plan audits.

Prior to joining the Firm, Karen spent seven years at KPMG LLP (KPMG) and was responsible for KPMG’s North Texas and Oklahoma employee benefit plan audit practice.   Karen also co-authored KPMG’s national training and local office training for employee benefit plan audits.  In addition, she annually conducted KPMG’s quality peer review process over benefit plan audits across KPMG offices in the United States.

Prior to joining KPMG, Karen spent twelve years at Arthur Andersen, LLP.  Karen provided corporate audit and qualified plans audit and consulting services to a variety of public and private companies.  Karen also served as a national instructor on qualified plan topics and supervised technology initiatives.

Tracey’s professional experience includes:

Jennifer’s primary disciplines include financial statement attestation and employee benefit plan audits. Robert was part of the Real Estate Taxation group at Weaver which had emphasis on partnership taxation of real estate developers and investors.

Cary is the managing partner of the consulting department of MCG. Cary’s primary disciplines include strategic planning, business development, critical priority identification, Quality of Strategy, and project management office execution. Cary’s clientele includes private equity firms and their portfolio companies in the manufacturing, industrials, technology, telecommunications, distribution, retail, and hospitality industries.

Prior to joining MCG, Cary was vice president of strategy and business development for Golden Gate Capital-owned businesses. Prior to that, Cary was a consulting engagement manager at The Boston Consulting Group, working with clients across a broad range of industries and functions. Prior to The Boston Consulting Group, Cary was with Texas Instruments in a number of engineering, product marketing, and sales/distribution management roles.  Additionally, Cary is a board member of multiple for-profit and non-profit enterprises.

Cary has an MBA from Harvard Business School and a bachelor of science in electrical engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology, where he played on the Division 1 men’s tennis team.

Scott is a partner in the Sales and Use Tax group. He joined the Firm in January 2012. Scott’s experience includes conducting sales and use tax refund analysis reviews, implementation of procurement companies, negotiating state and local tax incentives, performing managed audits, defending companies against state tax audit assessments, as well as conducting extensive research involving a wide range of sales and use taxation issues.

Prior to joining MCG, Scott spent almost 6 years at Deloitte Tax LLP as a senior manager and manager in the Multi-State Tax group; four years at KPMG, LLP as a Manager and Senior in the State and Local Tax group; and one year at Arthur Andersen LLP as a senior in the State and Local Tax Services group. During his career, Scott has served clients in manufacturing, telecommunications, retail, software, and the homebuilding industry.

Scott received a bachelor of arts from Arkansas State University, a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Arkansas-Little Rock, and a LL.M. in taxation from Southern Methodist University.

Results from his project teams have enabled informed decision-making and analysis.

With over 25 years of experience, Paul has multi-industry experience in performance and cost management, business process analysis and reengineering, and shared services, including the design and implementation of cost management programs for complex clients. He has led numerous cost management/profit improvement projects with large corporate organizations including Dr. Pepper Snapple Group, Energy Future Holdings, La Quinta, Inc., Waste Management, PillowTex, Frito-Lay, Verizon, and Honda of America.

Prior to joining MCG, Paul spent five years with Ernst & Young LLP focused on process improvement and finance organization optimization and transformation. Paul has also held roles such as director at PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP, senior director at Hitachi Consulting, and partner at Arthur Andersen LLP in Dallas.

Paul is a CPA, a Certified Management Accountant, and a member of Finance Executives International. He is a project management professional licensed by the Project Management Institute, and certified through the American Society of Quality as a Six Sigma Black Belt. He serves on the Board of Examiners for the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award.

Paul holds a master of professional accountancy from Baylor University, and a bachelor of business administration in accounting from the University of Texas-Arlington.

Ben’s primary focuses are financial audits, internal audit, SOX compliance, attestation engagements and special projects.  His areas of experience include: audits, reviews, compilations, agreed upon procedures, SSAE 16 SOC1/SAS 70s, SOC2, project management, risk assessments, business process reviews, control testing, system implementation assistance, IT risk assessments and cost/benefit analyses. His key responsibilities include financial audits, reviews, compilations, SSAE 18 SOC1/SAS70 audits, SOC2 audits, attestation engagements, and assistance with management assessments of the effectiveness of internal control over financial reporting using the COSO framework, business process reviews, control design effectiveness evaluations, controls testing, policy/procedures reviews and evaluation of control deficiencies.

Prior to joining the Firm, Ben held positions as a consultant, vice president-director of information systems, controller, and chief financial officer for companies ranging between real estate, banking, services, agriculture, oil & gas, and manufacturing.  In addition, he previously worked for Deloitte (formerly Deloitte & Touche).  Ben is a CPA and a CISA.

Biography

Jeremy joined the Firm in April 2007.  Jeremy is an audit partner in the Assurance and Advisory department.  His primary focus includes financial statement audits, benefit plan audits, attestation services, project management, risk assessments, and financial reporting including consolidation and foreign exchange translation.  Jeremy has substantial experience in the following industry sectors:  manufacturing and distribution, retail, franchise, and private equity.

Jeremy has worked on large international consulting projects acting as a project manager and coordinating between international and U.S. offices.  Additionally, Jeremy helped with the reissuance of three years of audits performed by a Big 4 accounting firm.

Prior to joining the Firm, Jeremy spent four years at Grant Thornton LLP in the Business Advisory and Assurance Department.  At Grant Thornton LLP, Jeremy was in charge of multiple small and medium private companies and a large public company.  Jeremy was in charge of providing services that included financial statement audits, Sarbanes-Oxley audits, and employee benefit plan audits.

Jeremy is a Certified Public Accountant and holds bachelors of business administration in both accounting and finance from Texas Tech University. Jeremy is also an active member in the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants.

Biography

Alex is a partner in the Transaction Advisory group and joined the Firm in November 2011.  His primary disciplines include transaction services related to buy- and sell-side due diligence, debt and equity financing, post-acquisition accounting, corporate restructuring, strategic planning, financial forecasting, financial modeling, and business valuation, specifically for intellectual property, intangible assets, securities, and partnership interests.  Alex has significant experience with clients in industries including oil field services, healthcare, manufacturing, and consumer packaged goods.

Prior to joining the Firm, Alex spent five years in the Business Valuation and Corporate Restructuring Advisory practice at Deloitte Financial Advisory Services LLP, where he was a manager.  Alex earned an MBA from the Cox School of Business at Southern Methodist University where he was a noted Cox Distinguished Scholar, and earned an undergraduate degree from Gettysburg College with a dual major in economics and classical studies.

During business school, Alex was a summer associate at Vector’s Research Management, a fixed income hedge fund based in NYC.  Prior to business school, Alex worked for IRI, a leading consumer packaged goods consulting firm where he worked in the strategic analysis and analytical modeling group.

Missy has significant experience with clients in the private equity, business technology services, manufacturing/distribution and service industries. She began her career at the Firm in the Transaction Advisory group providing buy and sell side quality of earnings and due diligence services for private equity, senior lenders and strategic investors. She now uses that expertise to prepare her clients’ financial records in a manner that sets them up for success in the event of third party reporting needs, including banking, investors, and auditors.

Prior to joining the Firm, Missy was an auditor at the Dallas based public accounting firm Saville, Dodgen & Company. Additionally, Missy served as Assistant Controller for turn-key construction company Rodman, LLC, where she was primarily responsible for consolidating general ledgers for sixteen divisions, including implementing processes and controls to ensure accurate, insightful and timely financial reporting. Missy also coordinated all audit-related activities.

Missy graduated Summa Cum Laude from the Business Honors Program at Texas A&M University. She recently completed her term on the Board of Directors for Children’s Cancer Fund – a non-profit closely affiliated with Children’s Medical Center and UT Southwestern Medical Center that raises funds for kids in their fight against cancer through strategic investments in research and care in North Texas.

Kevin joined the firm in January 2013. His primary disciplines include performance of federal and state tax compliance and consulting with partnerships, corporations, and individuals. He works with large publicly traded companies, closely held entities and their owners, and high net worth individuals.

Prior to joining the firm, Kevin spent five years at Ernst & Young LLP and one year at a local firm. During that time, Kevin was responsible for a wide array of clients and managed their accounts in all aspects of federal and state compliance.

Prior to graduation from Texas Tech University, Kevin spent fifteen years with a regional grocery chain, gaining substantial experience in the retail industry.
